Digital History Books:
Help
1. Displaying the books with Acrobat
2. Searching: Quick search and In-depth search
- Quick search is meant to compose simple basic
queries.
- More complex queries can be composed in the in-depth
search screen.
- All the words entered in a text
box are treated as a single
phrase.
- Use * to truncate a term.
For instance, observ* will search for
observe, observed, observing, observation,
etc.
- The search is case
insensitive when only lowercase characters are
used.
- It is case sensitive when
one or more uppercase characters are
used.
- When searching by author, enter the
lastname first.
For instance: Feldman Stephen.
3. Access from off-campus
- To access the books from off-campus, you will need to authenticate
using your Penn ID or any other accepted identification number.
- If you want to include a link to one of the books in an HTML page
or in a Blackboard page, make sure to use the persistent URL.
Using this URL will ensure that you or your students will be prompted
for authentication when trying to access the book from
off-campus. Otherwise you would not be prompted and would be denied access.
- The persistent URL for each book can be found in the result
lists, which are displayed when you browse or search the collection.
